Cuba– Rev. Mansel Daniel Wells “Beloved Husband & Father”

Rev. Mansel Daniel Wells, 76, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

Beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, Mansel was a devout Christian who dedicated every aspect of his life to loving God and others. Mansel was born in Kane, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Smethport, Pennsylvania and attended Clarion State, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After graduation, Mansel voluntarily joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War, serving until 1974.

Mansel married his wife of 49 years, Cathy Ann Cavazos, on July 1, 1976. Mansel and Cathy raised three sons, John Mark, Nathanael and Andrew.

Mansel was a lifelong educator. He taught high school math between 1974 and 1995 in Swanton, Northfield, and Stowe, Vermont. After earning a Master’s Degree in Technology in 1994 from St. Michael’s College, he spent the last 29 years working for Western New York Regional Information Center, where he retired in August of 2025.

Concurrent with his career as an educator, Mansel also attended Elim Bible Institute from 1980 through 1982. He was ordained by the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies and pastored Calvary Gospel Church and Hunger Mountain Church in central Vermont for 13 years. Mansel’s passion was to equip believers with the knowledge of God through his gift of teaching.

Mansel loved dogs, baseball, ice cream, antiquing and biking with Cathy, and watching his grandchildren grow. An avid do-it-yourselfer, he cherished restoring his home and property in Cuba, New York. In recent years, Mansel enjoyed reminiscing his childhood years and watching the tv show The Wonder Years with his wife, Cathy. He loved Neil Diamond songs. Anyone who knew Mansel knew that he had a unique and clever sense of humor. He particularly enjoyed Steve Martin’s comedy.

Mansel endured decades of health challenges, but always persevered. To his family and peers, it seemed he was indestructible no matter the odds against him. He is now rejoicing and enjoying his eternal reward in heaven with a pain free and healthy new body.

Mansel is survived by his wife, Cathy, his three sons, three grandchildren (Parker, Brady, and Colin) and much loved pups (Shiloh, Tobey and Ellie).

Friends will be received at the at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery where Rev. Stephen Bradshaw will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of gifts, Mansel would be honored by charitable contributions to Samaritan’s Purse, which provides emergency aid in Jesus’ name to disaster victims around the world.
