Rev. Michael Petz Obituary
Rev. Michael (Mike) George Petz, 69, was ushered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Born on July 9, 1955, he was the son of George and Myrtle (Sellers) Petz. He attended North Liberty High School, graduating with the class of 1973. Mike went on to Word of Life Bible Institute and graduated with the class of 1975. He then attended Citadel Bible College in Ozark, Arkansas, receiving his Bachelor’s in Bible and Pastoral Studies in 1978. This is also where he met the love of his life Amy Robinson. They were united in marriage on June 10, 1978. Michael was ordained into the ministry on April 13, 1980, right after the birth of their son Andy.
Mike worked for Laidig Construction before becoming a Youth Pastor at Sunrise Chapel in Plymouth for several years. Then he became a missionary serving with Word of Life Fellowship for almost 20 years.
Known as a man with a caring spirit who was extremely patient and had a way of drawing others to him. He always seemed to find common ground with the person that he was having a conversation with. Michael loved hearing people’s testimony of how they came to know the Lord or what God was doing in their life.
His family will always cherish the adventures that he took them on, especially spending summers at camp in New York and having staff campouts with fellow missionaries. Mike enjoyed reading books, playing baseball, basketball and football. He also loved fishing and taking his kids along with him.
Mike was a member of First Baptist Church in Goshen.
He is survived by his wife Amy of Bourbon; his sister Mary Kaser of New Carlisle; his children: Andy (Amy) Petz of Argos; David (Julie) Petz of Jacksonville, FL; Rebecca Driesenga of Fort Worth, TX; Rachael (Zach) Shafer of Argos; and his grandchildren: Ariana, Lillian, Ethan, Ioan, Katie, Moriah, Josiah, Ariella, Jeremiah, Abigail, Ezra, Noah, baby Petz, J.D., Promise, Parker, Michael, Sadie and Baylee.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edward and David Petz as well as his granddaughter Sophie Petz.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 10-11 at the Plymouth Community Church, 11802 Lincoln Hwy. Plymouth, IN 46563. A Memorial Service will immediately follow with Pastor Steve Cox officiating.
