Kathi Lee Petz was born April 3, 1956 in Grand Rapids, MN and was sent to her eternal home on March 5, 2025. Kathi is preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Bettie Petz; brothers, Larry and Duane; and brother-in-law, Ed Lauer. Kathi is survived by her siblings, Lucille Lauer, Ben (Mary) Petz, Sharon Torma, and Susan Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Kathi spent her childhood years living in Two Harbors, MN where she excelled at music, playing the upright bass in the school orchestra and becoming adept at playing the piano and organ. Her childhood was also largely fulfilled by the family's Baptist faith and time spent worshipping at the local church. Kathi also had a special talent as a writer, working on special interest articles and publishing a book of poetry. Her fond memories of Lake Superior always remained with her.
Later in life, she attended Itasca Community College, continuing to write for the school newspaper and earning a certificate in childcare and spent many years fulfilling her dreams of working with children. In her spare time, Kathi enjoyed hobbies such as baking, reading, cross stitching and crocheting afghans, many of which she gave away. She had and always held a special place in her heart for cats. She enjoyed talking to her siblings and listening to music (especially The Beatles). She was also dedicated to the Alcoholics Anonymous program where she had received her 40 year chip.
A celebration of Kathi's life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at First Church of God, 609 NW 4th Avenue, Grand Rapids, MN. Visitation at 1 PM, service at 2 PM. A reception following at Cohasset Community Center, Cohasset, MN.
