Rev. Rev. Reva Helen Porter

Rev. Reva Helen Porter went to be with her Jesus August 7. She was a woman of faith and Intercessory prayer. She was a wife, mother, special education teacher, song evangelist, pastor, and minister for over 60 years.

She was born on March 6, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Ray Watson and the late Irene Lanham Watson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Watson, Phillip Watson, and sister-in-law, Ann Watson.

She was married to Rev. Howard Porter on December 17, 1966, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Howard survives her. They have lived in Locust Grove, Georgia since 2006.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Mr. Timothy Regan-Porter & Mrs. Leila from Denver, Colorado; Rev. Dr. Stephen Porter & Mrs. Dana from Lenexa, Kansas; Mr. William Lytle & Mrs. Anne-Marie from Jackson, Georgia.

She is survived by three grandchildren: Watson Porter & Brynlee Porter from Lenexa, Kansas and Rosemary June Regan-Porter from Denver, Colorado and extended family.

Reva graduated from Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois in 1971. She received her master's degree from Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia in 1983. She taught special education and a few regular classrooms.

She was a song evangelist while teaching. In 1999, she began answering the call to preach also. She was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene, in 2002. She pastored the Smryna Church of the Nazarene and the Milledgeville Church of the Nazarene. She and Howard co-pastored the Pine Mountain Church of the Nazarene, Meansville, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life will be on August 8, at Harvest Point Church, 911 Simpson Mill Road, Locust Grove, Georgia. Viewing will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The Celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Taylor McKneely will officiate. There will be a Memorial Service in Indianapolis, Indiana at a date to be determined.
