Rev. Richard Lee Cole, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2025, at the age of 71 in Anderson, Indiana, surrounded by loved ones who prayed and sang him on to heaven. He was born on August 29th, 1953, in New Castle, Indiana, to Jim and Eleanor (Scott) Cole. Richard lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and his heavenly Father.
Richard's early years in Lapel instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for community. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1973 and went on to graduate from Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a local business owner, a Lapel Volunteer fire department member, a local pastor and a local friend.
Richard Cole pastored for over 40 years and finished his tenure at Daybreak Community Church in Lapel, Indiana as the Senior Adults Pastor.
Richard's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Deborah S. (McQueary) Cole; his children, Andy Cole and wife Elicia, Tony Cole, Paul Shane Cole; and his cherished fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, David Cole and wife Carla, Rosie (Cole) Walls and husband David, Nancy (Cole) Blackwood and husband Ed, Robert Cole and wife Laura; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was a man of positive character traits; a (Can Do Attitude), strong character, quiet dignity, and generous spirit. He possessed a warm smile, a kind heart, and a remarkable ability to make those around him feel loved and supported, and laugh. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his love of camping, boating, mushroom hunting, fishing, his willingness to help others, his love of Jesus and leading others to him, and spending time with family and friends.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Daybreak Community Church at 1219 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and a visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on April 14, 2025, with a service following at 12:00 pm at the church. Rev. Andy Cole, Rev. Tony Cole and Dr. Mark Gorveatte will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to Daybreak Community Church, 1219 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
We thank the Bozell family for all they have done in our time of need. They have been amazing. The family finds solace in knowing that Richard's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed.
