Rev. Samuel R. Vickers, age 84, of Gastonia took his final journey to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 21, 2024. He was born on May 15, 1940, in Cherokee County, SC to the late Etta Blackwell Vickers and William P. Vickers. During his career, Samuel worked as an industrial engineer but most of all served the Lord as an ordained minister. He loved him some Jesus, the word of God, and fellowshipping with others, he never met a stranger that he would not share his love of Jesus with. He enjoyed yard work and spending time with his kids and family. His late wife of 53 years, Dorothy Bell Vickers was the love of his life that he adored greatly. Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his sons Danny and Steven Vickers and eleven brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters Donna Russell (Mark), Sharon Athey (Tim), and Kimberly Pfaff; sister-in-law Rita Messer; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews; faithful friend Rev. George “Sonny” Miller; and many other special friends and family that loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate Rev. Samuel will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 12:00 pm in the chapel at Sisk-Butler Funeral Service with Rev. George “Sonny” Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly.
