The Reverend Theodore Clinton “Ted” Turman of Mount Airy passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was 71 years old. The Reverend Turman was born November 9, 1951, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Marie Martin and Silas Turman. He retired as a faithful minister in the United Methodist Church after 30 plus years of service. The Reverend Turman taught courses part-time at Surry Community College. In addition, he worked for many years at the Neighbors store on North Main Street in Mount Airy, a job that brought him so much joy. He is survived by his wife, the Reverend Mary Catherine “Cathy” Haynes Turman; a daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Chase Luker; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clint and Louise Turman; Michael and Tonya Wise, Matthew and Stephanie Wise; grandchildren, Thomas Turman, Rowland Turman, Mary-Sellers Luker, Charlie Luker, Reed Wise and Adrian Wise; sister, Bonita Turman; brother-in-law, Harry Mustard; brother and sister-in-law, Duke and Margaret Turman; and sister-in-law, Darlene Turman; and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, The Reverend Turman was preceded in death by his sister, Antoinette Turman Mustard; and his brother, Bill Turman. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Blackwater United Methodist Church in Ararat, North Carolina with Mr. Graham Atkinson, Reverend Charlie Fried, and Reverend Billy Pendleton officiating. The burial will follow in Bell Spur Community Cemetery in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Vera Combs, Will and Tina Haynes, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Surry Community Heath and Rehab for all the love and care shown to Reverend Turman. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Turman family.
