Rex Porter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Red Mountain Funeral Home on Sep. 20, 2024.
Rex was born in Petersburg Tennessee into a family of many sisters, and only one brother. He grew up living the life of a young boy in the country where he fished and enjoyed shooting his BB gun. After High School Rex joined the US Air Force and spent 8 years as a radar operator. During this time, he also found himself the base sports photographer. This is when he met the love of his life Mary Whitt. After realizing it was true love, they wasted no time in getting married and starting a family. Rex is survived by his two kids, Jeff, and Valencia. He has 2 grandkids, and 2 step-grandkids. He was deeply loved by all 8 great grandkids, and another one will be joining them soon.
After being discharged from the Air Force, Rex used his electronics skills to become one of the leaders in building the Cable Television industry into what it is today. He built many systems throughout the US and was instrumental in starting societies for furthering the careers of engineers. One of his colleagues said this - Rex was the kind of person who made coming to work something to look forward to. His sense of humor, combined with a genuine care for others, made even the toughest days easier. He knew that behind every job, every task, there were people - people who mattered. And that's what set Rex apart: His deep commitment to relationships.
After retiring, restarting work, and retiring again, he enjoyed golfing whenever he could. He reveled in shooting a hole-in-one while playing a round with his instructor. Rex played and managed a golfing group at Arizona Golf Resort for many years. His other big enjoyment was going out to eat with Mary. They would often go for wings or Italian food at their local favorites. If they wanted anything grilled it was always with family. My dad really loved to dog and house sit. He had many four-legged admirers, and they always seemed to prefer him over their owners. If Rex was around, you could be assured of comedy, and good conversation. He was full of stories and very knowledgeable. Rest in peace, everyone loved you and will miss you.

Rex was always quick with something to make everyone laugh. I played in his Sunday Scramble, loving his humor and candy! Peggy
