Reymundo (Raymond) Perez Salas, 84, of Menard, TX passed away on August 16, 2025 in the comfort of his home. Raymond was born August 11, 1941 in Menard, TX, to Guadalupe Perez Salas and Luis Flores Salas.

It’s hard to put into words the life of a man like my dad someone who meant so much, not only to me, but to so many others. Raymond was a skilled and passionate rancher. He didn’t just ranch he lived it. For over 50 years, he poured his heart into the land, into the cattle, and into the work, and he did it with pride and dedication. But ranching wasn’t the only thing he was good at. He held many careers throughout his life, and whatever he did, he did well. He was one of those rare people who could do just about anything, and do it better than most. But he always came back to ranching, because it was where he belonged.

Raymond was the very definition of a hard worker. He was knowledgeable, generous, gentle, and kindhearted. People respected him not just for what he could do, but for who he was. He had a calm, cool ease about him that naturally drew others in. That quiet strength and steady presence is part of why he was so well-loved, and why he had so many friends over the course of his life. I had the privilege of working alongside my dad for most of my life. Some of my fondest memories are the simplest ones riding in the truck with him, feeding cattle, checking water troughs, listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio. And when one of his favorite songs came on Tennessee Flat-Top Box by Johnny Cash he’d sing along. I’d look over at him, and it always brought a smile to my face. I couldn’t help but sing with him. Those moments are etched in my heart forever.

My dad was a provider in every sense of the word. He raised three daughters, and we never went without. If he struggled, he never let it show because he carried it all with quiet strength. He did everything for his family, never asking for recognition, just doing what needed to be done, day in and day out. He was married to my mother for 65 years. Their marriage was built on friendship, and that’s probably why it lasted as long and as beautifully as it did. They had a quiet, strong love the kind that doesn’t need to be flashy to be deeply felt.

Dad was also a loving and supportive grandfather and a proud, doting great-grandfather. His love reached across generations, and his presence in our lives was a gift none of us will ever take for granted. Dad was a man of deep faith. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he stood firm in his beliefs. His faith brought him comfort and peace, and he found joy in studying God’s word and sharing it with others. Something passed down from his own father, who was a strong influence in his spiritual life. I lived for my dad. He was my mentor, my role model, and my constant. When he left, he took a piece of me with him but he also left a piece of himself with me, in every memory, every lesson, every laugh, every quiet ride in the truck. Dad lived a life of quiet strength, kindness, and purpose. He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed. Thank you, Dad, for everything. You were our world and I’ll carry you with me, always and forever. - Kayce Ray Salas
