Celebrating the life of Ricardo A. Alvarado, a man whose love for life was as vast as the ocean he cherished. Born on January 25th, 1968, Ricardo’s journey through life was one of passion and perseverance. He found joy in the simple pleasures – fishing, BBQs, and the good ole country two step. His love for the coast was a testament to his deep connection with nature and the peace it brought to his soul.

Ricardo’s professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. For 14 years, he served as a lineman for CPS, where he received his nickname Big Bird, and later, he continued to bring light to people’s lives through various electrical utility companies. His work was not just a job; it was a calling, one that he answered with unwavering commitment.

The passing of his beloved mother, Teresa Alvarado, in 2020 was a turning point for Ricardo. His health began to decline, but his spirit remained unbroken. Placed on the transplant list, he made the life-altering decision to stop drinking, a choice that reflected his strength and desire to live fully. In April 2022, he received a liver transplant, a gift that granted him more precious time with his loved ones. He embraced life’s ups and downs like the everchanging tides of the ocean. In March 2024, Ricardo faced a new challenge as his body began to reject the transplant. Then, on August 12th, he was admitted to the hospital with severe leg pain. He fought valiantly through the week, but ultimately, he lost his battle with a serious bacterial infection.

Ricardo leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. His father, Rudolfo V. Alvarado, and Ofeila, his brother Rudy Jr. and Penny Alvarado, his sisters Teresa Ann Beebe with partner John, and Tanya Alvarado, all carry the torch of his memory. His nephews Tyrone Ahin, Trevor Ahin with fiancée Shelby, Clayton and Monse Alvarado, and Trent Beebe, along with his nieces Brittany Beebe with fiancé Sid, Taryn Ahin, Jayden Hicks, and Carlie Alvarado, will remember their uncle’s laughter and wisdom. The youngest members of the family, great-nephew Liam and Vincent, and great-nieces Lana, Loriah, Delaney, and Wren, will know him through the stories they will be told.

As we bid farewell to Ricardo, let us hold close the memories that brighten our days, just as he brightened the lives of those around him. May we find comfort in knowing that his spirit now soars freely, perhaps watching over us from his beloved coast, with the sun setting over the water – a perfect backdrop for a soul as beautiful as his. Farewell, Ricardo, Big Bird and thank you for the light you’ve shared with us all.

Services will be held at Schertz Funeral Home, August 27th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the rosary starting at 7:00 PM. Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 28th at St. Jerome Catholic Church, in China Grove, TX. Burial will follow at Cover Cemetery in Adkins, TX.
