Ricardo Alberto Luque, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana. Born on November 12, 1951 in Guayaquil Ecuador, Ricardo's life was a testament to his loving, friendly, and passionate nature. His legacy is one of dedication, both to his family and to the sport that captured his heart from a young age.

Ricardo's journey as a professional jockey spanned over 35 years, a career marked by his profound love for horses and horse racing. His skill and dedication to the sport were recognized at the highest level when he was honored with a Presidential Honor by the President of San Salvador, Presiden of Ecuador, Major of Guayaquil and to many Historical feats an accolade that he received with both immense pride and humility. Ricardo's name became synonymous with integrity and excellence in the racing community, and his presence at the track will be deeply missed.

Beyond the racecourse, Ricardo's greatest pride was his family. He raised his children David, Jonathan, Ricardo, Alberto, and Ulises Luque, and daughters Nataly Luque and Gloria Mendieta as a single father, instilling in them the values of love, perseverance, and kindness. His son-in-law Alejandro Lasean, alongside Ricardo's beloved grandchildren, Daughter in Law Wendy ( La Gata) were the joys of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His sisters Isabel, Elvira, and Marlene, as well as his Brother Eduardo, brother-in-law Cesar Calderon, and nephews Segundo, Cesar(Pelusa), Xavico, Polo, Aurora, Angel Manzano, Cecilia, Teresa, Julio, Mario, Román, and Ing César Calderon and all the friends who shared love and time with him, will remember Ricardo for his boundless love and the warmth he brought into their lives.

Ricardo's amiable nature extended beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of countless individuals he met throughout his years as a jockey. His friendships were many and varied, each one a reflection of his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His ex-wife and mother of his children, Marjorie Gomez, remained a respected and important part of his life.

In remembering Ricardo, one cannot help but recall the big heart that defined him. He was a man who lived with passion, whether he was in the saddle, leading the race, or sharing a meal with his family. His laughter, his stories, and his unwavering support for those he loved are the memories that will comfort all who knew him.

Ricardo Alberto Luque's life story is one of triumph, resilience, and unyielding affection. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he made on the world and the love he so freely gave. His spirit will forever gallop alongside those who were fortunate enough to have been part of his extraordinary journey.

Ricardo's life will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025 at the Chapel of Peace at Sunset Cemetery in Evansville, IN. Visitation will begin at 11am, with a service starting at 12pm.
