Ricardo Lee Rivera, affectionately known as "Ricky," "Rach," "Scratch," "Big Rick," and "Grandpa" 70, of Fulshear, Texas, passed away on March 19, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.
Born on November 29, 1954, in Brownsville, Texas, to Katie Lee (Egly) Rivera and Moises Pio Rivera, Sr., Ricky attended Hannah High School in Brownsville, where he met the love of his life, Connie. After high school, he honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical Admin Specialist at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1974 and went on to serve in the Army and Air Force National Guard Bureau from 1974 to 1978 while attending Pan American University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in August 1978. In August 1995, he earned his Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M University.
Ricky began his educational career in Brownsville, working for six years before transitioning to the freight industry. After five years, he realized the importance of loving what you do for work and returned to education in Houston, Texas. He served as a general education teacher, PE teacher, and ultimately as an administrator in Cypress ISD, Houston ISD, Lamar CISD, and Spring Branch ISD. He dedicated 29 years to education before he and Connie retired in May 2011.
Ricky enjoyed playing golf, watching various sports, going to the casino, and spending time outdoors tending to his yard. He cherished moments spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ricky positively influenced many lives over the years, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
In addition to his parents, Ricky is preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn R. Hinojosa and Leticia "Letty" Kendrick, and his brother, Juan "Johnny" Andres Rivera, Sr.; his father-in-law, Leory Boudreaux Sr.; his sister-in-law, Lila Waller; brothers-in-law, Edward Paul Boudreaux, Leroy Boudreaux, Jr., Mike Allen, Sandy Savino, Kevin Boudreaux, Gary Boudreaux, Abelardo "Abel" D. Hinojosa, Jr., and Kenny Young; and by his nephew, Kenny "Bubba" Savino.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Connie Boudreaux Rivera; daughters Lisa Lee Rivera, Laura Lee Rivera Young (Ben), and Rachelle Lee Rivera (Danny); and siblings Lulu Savino, Moises P. Rivera, Jr. (Cindy), Gloria Young, and Raul "Gooley" Rivera (Sandi). Ricky is also survived by his grandchildren, Graham and Eli Young, Jayden and Arden Roach; his mother-in-law, Betty Boudreaux; his sister-in-law, Joanne Boudreaux, brother-in-law, Thomas "Sonny" Kendrick, his nieces and nephews; extended family; and a host of friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sahara Hospice Care (Sam, Terry, and Linda), Home Instead (Veronica), and Summit Mobile Wound Care (Dr. Tran, Dr. Hasse, Sky, and Stephen).
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by services and military honors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
The Rivera family welcomes plants and flowers; however, for those wishing to donate, please consider an organization of your choice in his honor. The family's biggest request is simple: "Do what Ricky would do!" Go out and do something kind for someone in his honor. Whether it's bringing in a neighbor's trash cans, returning a shopping cart for a stranger, holding the door open for "EVERYONE", or thanking a Veteran for their service, every act of kindness counts.
Expressions of remembrance and condolences are welcome and may be left for the family at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com.
