Richard Schwegerl Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Richard Lee (Rich) Schwegerl, of Yuba City, California. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Rich passed away in his home on August 25, 2023, with his family by his side. He was 52 years old.

Rich was born on April 13, 1971, in Shasta, California. He lived in the Yuba Sutter Area for the past 50 years.

Rich is survived by his spouse, DeAnna of 25 years; daughter - Rachel Quinn, son - Cole Schwegerl, both of Yuba City; father - Richard (Brenda) Schwegerl of Medford, OR; mother - Dona (Hap) Pugh of Grass Valley, CA; stepfather - Alvin (Debbie) Gonzales of Olivehurst, CA; and sister - Misty (Rick) Nevis of Yuba City, CA.

Rich attended Marysville High School and graduated in 1990. He enjoyed weightlifting and baseball, but his true love was football, which he played during all four years. He made many friends in high school that he stayed close with throughout his life.

Rich, like his father and grandfather before him, dedicated much of his career to trimming trees. He worked for Utility Tree Service for 11 years and continued with Caltrans Tree Crew for 18 years. After 29 years of tree service, he changed his career path and took a position with Caltrans as a Stripe and Stencil Supervisor which he held for the past 4 years.

Rich was a dedicated husband, father, and coach who loved hunting, fishing, and any adventure he could find in the great outdoors. He coached softball, baseball, and junior football where he made a tremendous positive and lasting impact on the youth in our community. His love for hunting and fishing brought him an ample amount of joy, especially when he was doing it with his son, Cole.

When Rich wasn't coaching, hunting, or fishing, he was camping, hiking, and traveling with his wife, DeAnna. Some of Rich and DeAnna's favorite, most proud adventures were when they visited their daughter Rachel at each place she was stationed while serving in the United States Air Force. Rich was truly an inspiration to all of those around him and will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and community.

Services will be held at the 530 Event Center, 1104 J Street, Marysville, CA, on September 23, 2023, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Rich to The Bridge Church for their love and support throughout this difficult time.

Rich was the most amazing, husband and father! The only thing he loved more than the great outdoors was his family. I´m so thankful to have had him as my big brother.

Richie was such à cute, sweet child when I became friends with Dona, Hap, Richie and Misty 41 years ago. He grew up to be a great man. My heart is with you through these tough times. May Gods loving arms surround this entire family as you mourn that handsome, brave man. Richie was so loved.
