Richard Joseph Albert of Lowell
Richard Joseph Albert, 81, a life-long resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell died peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Friday, January 2, 2026 with his loving family at his bedside. He was the son of the late Andrew and Claire (Letourneau) Albert. He proudly served with the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded and he received the purple heart. Richard also received two Bronze Stars. Richard retired from Veteran Administration at the Edith Nourse Veterans' Hospital in Bedford, MA. He was previously employed by Courier Citizen. Richard enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He was an avid sports fan, especially with the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the silver mitten's boxing club. Richard was very proud of his Lowell neighborhood. His purest joy came from just spending quiet time with his family. He survived by his two sons, Kenny Albert of Lowell, MA, Richard and his wife, Elissa Albert of Pepperell, MA; three brothers, Armand Albert of Raymond, NH, George and his wife, Deborah Albert of Bourne, MA, and Dave and his wife, Judy Albert of Dracut, MA; his son-in-law, Jason Gelinas; his companion, Clair Conroy of Dracut, MA; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Richard was father to the late Kerry Gelinas who passed away in November of 2013, and the twin brother to the late Raymond Albert.
FUNERAL NOTICE Richard's visiting hours will be Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 3 to 7 PM. Funeral will be Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 10AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, N. CHELMSFORD followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack St., Lowell. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
