The following year the family moved to Sedalia, Missouri where Richard operated a crane on the Minuteman Missile Bases. In 1963, they returned to Nebraska and Richard worked for Farwell Irrigation; from there he went to work at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant as a foreman and EMT. He also worked as a crane operator for Crane Rental and Al Kittle.
In 1974, after the Arcadia tornado, Richard built and operated the Huskie Drive In. In 1975, he started Anderson Construction, installing Lockwood Pivots and York Grain Bins. He then began farming and raising cattle on his dad's farm in 1990; while building bridges throughout central Nebraska.
Richard served on the Arcadia Village Board for 32 years and Region 26 for 26 years. Rich enjoyed raising blue grass sod and playing in a 4-piece band, the Wranglers.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Connie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Christie and Ed Gogan, and Vicki and Jim Ahern; a son and daughter-in-law, Mick and Linda Anderson; four grandchildren and their spouses, Blake and Nicole Anderson, Micayla and Mark Dunn, Michael and Kaitlin Gogan, and Rachel and Michael Dentlinger; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kendall, Cooper and Quinn Anderson, Olivia, Harper and Cannon Dunn, Breckan, Rylan and Emerson Gogan, Blakely and Jett Dentlinger.
