Richard Ankney Obituary
In Loving Memory of Richard "Rick" Roy Ankney
January 10, 1944 – October 5, 2025
Richard "Rick" Roy Ankney, 81, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 5, 2025.
Rick was born on January 10, 1944, in Olney, Maryland, to the late George and Martha Ankney. A man of deep faith, Rick loved the Lord and served his church faithfully as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He presided as bishop over the Warrenton Ward, and tried to magnify all of the positions to which he was called.
A man who lived life with energy and purpose, Rick was always active, enjoyed staying in shape, and found great joy in the outdoors. A devoted sportsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He was also a passionate collector, with an appreciation for fine craftsmanship-whether it was guns, knives, or even letter openers.
Rick was proud to have served his country. Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he continued his service afterward in the Army Reserve and, later, in the National Guard. Following his military career, he became a successful business owner, founding and operating his own contracting company, Ankney Maintenance & Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Ankney, and his granddaughter, Sarah Webb.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his devoted wife of 54 years, Jean Ankney; his children, Joel (Jennifer) Ankney, Robert Webb, and Melanie (Diego Bucheli) Ankney; his grandchildren, Joshua (Caitlin), Jacob, Joseph (Karlie), and Jess Ankney, Austin and Elizabeth Webb, and Maria Paulina Bucheli (Juan Fernando Cevallos); and his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, Amalia, Asher, and Rosie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October, 18th at 2:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Newtown Chapel, 4873 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach, VA to honor Rick's remarkable life, love, and faith.
Rick will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his steadfast faith, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. Condolences may be left online at www.altmeyerfh.com.
