Richard Bean Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center on Jan. 26, 2026.
Richard "Dick" Duane Bean, 89, passed away on January 16, 2026 in Surprise, Arizona. Born on December 20, 1936, in New Market, Iowa, Dick lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering passion for all things mechanical.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic with the 54th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Holding the rank of Airman First Class (A1C), he was honorably discharged on January 18, 1962. His military service earned him recognition through the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal-testaments to his commitment and integrity during his years of duty.

Following his military career, Dick devoted over five decades to aviation safety in the federal aviation sector. His exceptional contributions were honored with a prestigious award recognizing 50 years of dedicated service-a reflection of both his expertise and steadfast work ethic.

Known for his remarkable mechanical abilities, Dick had a reputation for being able to fix just about anything. Whether working as an aircraft mechanic, flying planes or tinkering with engines in his spare time, he found joy and purpose in solving complex problems with his hands and mind. His love for mechanics extended into hobbies such as drag racing, sand rails and camping-activities that brought him both excitement and peace.

Dick's faith played an important role in his later years. A born-again Christian, he was baptized on December 18, 2015, and became a member of the Wickenburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. His spiritual journey added depth to a life already rich with experience and meaning.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie Jean Bean; daughters Connie Gray, Peggy Ferrin, Melody Bueghly, and Cindy Gilderoy; son Tony Bean; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Karen K. Bean (February 24, 1947 – December 8, 1992).

A man of strength and enduring skill, Dick leaves behind a legacy built not only through service to his country and community but also through the lives he touched along the way. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Committal Service will be held on February 11, 2026, from 02:30 PM to 03:00 PM at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Road. A Memorial Gathering will be held on February 11, 2026, from 03:30 PM to 05:00 PM at the Gilderoy residence.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
