It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Allen Berger, a devoted husband, cherished father, and proud grandfather, who died on September 20, 2025, at the age of 80.

Richard faced the difficult journey of Alzheimer's disease in his final years, a struggle he endured with courage. Even as the illness progressed, he maintained his humor and charm, qualities that lifted the spirits of those around him. Though these years brought hardship, we now take comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.

Born with an adventurous spirit, Richard first pursued his career interest in aeronautical engineering and began his studies at the University of Michigan, where he made many fond memories with relatives, and later graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Richard spent many years working for FEMA, where he served as a Disaster Safety Officer. In this role, he provided comfort, guidance, and support to countless people who had been displaced by natural disasters, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service to others.

In his younger years, Richard found adventure parachuting-an experience that served as a prelude to earning his pilot's license and eventually his own airplane. Flying became one of his greatest joys, and in retirement, he and his beloved wife, Sandi, spent countless hours soaring the skies together, traveling up and down the East Coast, as far south as Florida.

As a husband, Richard shared a lifetime of love and partnership with Sandi. As a father, he led with strength and wisdom, encouraging his children to follow their dreams. To his grandchildren, he was a source of endless joy, stories, and warm embraces-always ready for a hug with a smile and a sparkle in his eye.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandi Berger; his children, Jaclyn Hookway and her husband Christopher, and Scott Berger and his wife Rosa; and his treasured grandchildren, Dayna Hookway, Adam Hookway, Madelyn Hookway, and David Berger. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Richard's remains will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, Massachusetts, on October 17th at 10:45 a.m. A celebration of life gathering will follow the graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bakers Senior Center in Naples, Florida, specifically to the Dementia Respite Program, in Richard's memory: https://www.bakerseniorcenternaples.org/support-us.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Richard's love, kindness, and adventurous spirit will remain with us always.

Well Cuz, I´m glad we had a chance to talk and laugh a bit about some old times. One memory was visiting you guys up in Buffalo. You´d called us to say you were moving to Buffalo but you weren´t in the major snow zone! Upon opening your garage door, the dog took one look and ran back into the house. I´ll miss you Cuz, my love to the family. Jerry Allen

So sorry. I will cherish, forever, my wonderful memories of our summers together at my parents´ Sebago Lake house in Maine with our families. We spent our fun-filled days swimming, boating, fishing and drive-in movies at night! We certainly had "FAMILY LOVE"
You stayed alone longer so we had more "playtime"in July and August! REST IN PEACE, Dear Cousin. You are a huge inspiration in my childhood.
