Richard Bhoolai, affectionately known as "Roland," "Rich," and "Richie," passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the age of 66.
He was born on April 19, 1958, in Sangre Grande, Trinidad, to parents Mathilda Bhoolai (née Thomas) and David Bhoolai. Richard was the eleventh of thirteen children and the youngest boy in the family.
At age 17, driven by a desire to explore the world, he left home and joined the U.S. Armed Services. His service took him around the globe and eventually to St. Thomas, before he settled in Louisville, KY, in 1982.
In 1983, he welcomed his beloved daughter, Danielle. Three years later, in 1986, he opened Richie's Fast Food Restaurant in Frankfort, KY. He later moved to Lexington, KY, and ultimately to Cincinnati, OH, in 1991. There, his entrepreneurial spirit flourished, and he grew his business to five locations across the city.
Richard was a man of many passions. He loved cooking, entertaining, and listening to music-especially Calypso, Bob Marley, and CeCe Winans. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He was known for his big heart, generosity, and deep love for God. Richard was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a true giver, always ready to help anyone in need and consistently giving to his church and community.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Eva Alexander; parents, David and Mathilda Bhoolai; uncle, John Alexander; brothers, Antoine Bhoolai (Janice) and Jerry Bhoolai (Edie); and in-laws Davy Thomas (Murchison), Cedric George (Jemma), and Romeo Duzant (Gail).
He is survived by his only child, Danielle Jackson (Jelani); and grandchildren, Liliana, Salim, and Iris Jackson. He also leaves behind siblings Lloyd Castillo (Yuklan), Evelyn Henderson (Sylvester), Murchison Thomas, Angela Mohammed (Fyze), Linda Skerrette (Byron), Jemma George, Stephen Bhoolai (Patsy), Kathleen Gurevitch (Marc), Gail Duzant, Ingrid Grimes, Thomas Bhoolai, and Dave Bhoolai (Varlene).
He will be dearly missed by many beloved nieces and nephews; the mother of his daughter, Pernese Love; his former spouse, Jaki Robinson; and his fiancée, Trish Best.
A celebration of life Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 11, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 6901 Dixie Hwy, with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Uncle Rich you are so missed. So loved. So admired for all you´ve accomplished and for your selfless dedication to our family. Thank you for inviting me to move to Cincinnati and live with your family when I started college. I am so proud to be a part of your legacy. We had the best times celebrating family and friends every chance we got. Making lifelong memories. You were always the life of the party. We can hear your voice a mile away. We miss your voice. Uncle Rich, thank you again and I do hope you know how much I love you.

Forever and Ever,

Stacy, Jermaine, Lesley, Emmanuel and Shonn. We Love You and May You Rest In Eternal Peace.
