Richard Alton Bowman, age 85, of Cherryville, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at Peak Resources of Shelby. He was born February 10, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Diffy Bowman and Hazel Gibson White. Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was an automotive body mechanic by trade and worked for many years at Abernethy’s. Richard enjoyed talking on shortwave and CB radios. He was a member of American Legion Post #100. He was at one time an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his greatest passions was dancing. Richard also enjoyed gardening and was excellent at raising tomatoes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Bowman; son, Rick Bowman; and sister, Barbara Cochran.
Richard is survived by his children, Ed Bowman (Felicia), Michael Bowman (Lori), Charles Webb (Cindy), and Sandy Dillingham (Larry); daughter-in-law, Melany Bowman; significant other, Shirley Blankenship; grandchildren, Lauren Henderson (Mike), Mark Bowman, Jonathan Bowman, Natalie Ramsey (Josh), Chase Webb, Melissa Church, Megan Benfield, and Mariah Smith; 9 great grandchildren; aunt, Betty Page Blackwell; siblings, Darrell Bowman (Rita), Karen Goodman, and Brenda Moon; and dog, Lilly.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 2:00 to 2:45 PM, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Tom Witherspoon and Rev. Curtis Norris. Military Honors will follow and be rendered by American Legion Post #100. Burial will be private.
