Richard Vincent Briscar passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 84. He is survived by the love of his life, Rosanna (née Nicoletti); his daughter, Nancy Briscar Martel, and his son, Curt Briscar (Maureen). Richard was blessed with seven grandchildren: Lindsey Ryant, Jonathon Briscar, Tyler Briscar, Rachel Isabella (Jamaal Morton), Samantha Brisellie (Josephine), Emily Briscar and Zoë Martel. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Maria Isabella, William, Connor and Kaylee Ryant, Hezekiah, Jaylon, Jur'Z and Jayce Morton.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Agnes Briscar (née Stoots) his father, Vincent Rudolph Briscar, and his sister, Kathryn Streets (David). He was the oldest brother to Mary Ellen Isom (Larry), Donald Briscar (Sandy), and Judith Manning (John, deceased) and he was also an uncle to his many nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud. He was a dear cousin to many, whom he dearly loved.
Richard was born in the little coal miner's town of Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania. When he was 9 years old, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There, he graduated from East High School. He met his sweetheart, Rosanna, at TRW where they both worked. They were married on October 23, 1965.
Richard served in the Army, and soon after he and Rosanna were married, they moved to an Army base in New Jersey. When he had fulfilled his duty to his country, they came back to Cleveland and settled down in Independence, Ohio, with their daughter. A few years later, they moved to Seven Hills, where they lived in a duplex with Rosanna's family. It was there that they raised their daughter and son.
Control Data Corporation employed Richard as a system administrator. He worked there for twenty-five years. He then worked at SIRVA in the same capacity. He made some wonderful friends at both places, many of whom kept in touch with him when he retired.
Richard loved music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and enjoyed singing throughout his lifetime. He sang in The Great Northern Christmas Tree Choir, which was special because his daughter was the director. He also sang in the choir at St. Columbkille Church in
Parma, Ohio. In his later years, he sang in the choir at St. Albert the Great Church in North Royalton, Ohio. He was always happiest when he was singing.
Richard also loved the Cleveland Indians, and his favorite player was Rocky Colavito. He was a big fan of "Dad" jokes-the cornier, the better. More than anything, however, he loved God. It was evident in his kind and compassionate nature. He volunteered at St. Columbkille as a PSR teacher and a Cantor, and he and Rosanna were on the Pre-Cana team. He also served in the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight.
Richard was a living example of God's love. He was a kind, gentle soul who had the patience of a saint. Those who knew him will miss him terribly. Yet, we take comfort in knowing that he is finally home and, without a doubt, singing in the Heavenly Chorus.
Funeral services will be private in keeping with Richard's wishes. If you would like to honor his memory, please consider donating to one of the following programs:
