Richard Brochu Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plummer Funeral Home - Augusta on Dec. 29, 2025.
AUGUSTA-Richard R. "Dick" Brochu, 77, passed away on December 27, 2025 at the Maine Veteran's Home in Augusta. He was born on June 17, 1948, one of twelve children of Dorrilas and Rose (Grondin) Brochu.

Dick was a graduate of Cony High School and was drafted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam during the War. After serving for two years, he was honorably discharged. For many years he was married to Shirley Drouin and together they had two children, Tim and Tina.

Dick was a self taught Mason who worked hard to perfect his skill, and instructed the trade through the Augusta Adult Ed program. His skillset advanced to earthwork and Dick began his own company, Brochu Construction. Dick was a hard worker who was proud to provide for his family and instilled the importance of a hard work ethic.

Dick enjoyed racing Polaris snowmobiles and was a member of the Fox Glen Snowmobile Club and the North Augusta Trailblazers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed watching Nascar, cheering for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. In the warmer months he loved to golf and will be remembered for his competitive spirit. Some of Dick's favorite past times was playing polker with his brothers every Sunday.

In addition Dick was a member of Le Club Clumet and the Eagle's Club.

Dick was predeceased by his parents and his siblings: O'Neil Brochu, Paul Brochu, Rene Brochu, Norman Brochu, Robert Brochu, Claire Dubord, Patricia Dunn, Jeanette Brochu, and Gerald Brochu.

He is survived by his children: Timothy Brochu and Tina Canwell and her husband Jeffery; granddaughters: Breanna Cox and Kelsie Canwell and her fiancee Joshua Hofferberth; a great grandson Blaine Hofferberth; and siblings: Raymond Brochu and his wife Barbara and Rachel Siviski.

No services are being held per Dick's request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
