Richard Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Albert & Burpee Funeral & Cremation Services on Jan. 22, 2026.
Richard Earl Brown, a man defined by his adventurous spirit and friendly demeanor, passed away on January 20, 2026, with his family by his side after a long medical battle. Born on June 21, 1965, in Norway, Maine, Richard's journey through life was marked by his love for family, work, and the simple joys of nature.

Richard spent time living in both Waterford, Maine and Albany, New York before raising his daughter in Greene, Maine alongside his life partner, Sherry, before their move to Lewiston, Maine. He has beloved memories in the scenic surroundings of Waterford, including swimming in Bear Pond, maintaining the Elm Vale Cemetery as a teenager and off roading in his black Ford F-150 up Hawk Mountain. He enjoyed attending the Oxford Fair and the races at Oxford Plains Speedway with his daughter and grandsons.

A graduate of Oxford Hills High School, Richard believed in the value of hard work, and his career was diverse. His work in the Lewiston community included machine operation at the former Jones and Vining plant, along with many years as a cook at Governor's Restaurant and various nursing homes. He also worked as a security guard at Tex Tech in Monmouth, Maine alongside his brother, Stanley. Richard eventually found his calling as a recycling agent at the former White Rock Distilleries in Lewiston.

He is survived by his devoted life partner of 37 years Sherry Knowles of Lewiston, Maine; their daughter, Jenny Graves, and son-in-law, Alan Graves, of Mason, New Hampshire; brother, Stanley Brown and sister-in-law Mary Brown of Zephyrhills, Florida; nephew, Brandon Brown of Monmouth, Maine; and five grandsons, Kyle Graves, Patrick Graves, Heath Graves, Gage Graves and Leo Graves.

Richard was a lover of dogs, he shared countless adventures with his grand-dog boxer Lucas, and most recently, with his buddy Kooper, a jack russell terrier who he rescued from the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. His enthusiasm for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the Boston Celtics, Miami Dolphins, New York Yankees, and Nascar. Richard looked forward to spending time at his brother Stanley's home, especially cooking for his family during the holidays and eating BBQ at summer cookouts. Richard found solace in the beauty of nature, often jumping in the car to explore the picturesque landscapes of Beaver Brook Park in Lisbon, Maine, the winding roads of the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire, and the serene state parks of Maine with his life partner Sherry.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday January 24, 2026 from 11:00am-12:00pm with a service immediately following at 12pm. All arrangements are under the care of Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St. Lewiston, ME 04240.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 168 Leighton Rd. Augusta, ME 04330.
