Richard P. Bryant, 92 of Cowden, Illinois died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 5:54 AM at his residence in Cowden surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Herrick First Christian Church, Herrick, Illinois with Pastor Paul Dickerson officiating. Visitation will also be Friday, January 12, 2024 in Herrick First Christian Church beginning at 10:00 AM until time of Service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bowling Green Township, Illinois with Military Rites by the Shelbyville VFW.
Richard P. Bryant was born Sunday, January 18, 1931 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma the son of Mack Walter and Frances Irene (maiden name Miller) Bryant. He was raised in Herrick, Illinois attending Bowling Green Country School. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. Richard married Barbara Ellen Doster on November, 1950 in Continental Ohio. He was formerly employed with Brown Shoe Co., Charleston, and he farmed and worked for the Bowling Green Township road crew. Richard retired from Continental Railroad following many years. Richard was a member of the Herrick American Legion and was known to have a good sense of humor. He especially enjoyed woodwork, cooking, and spending time with his beloved grandkids.
Richard P. Bryant is survived by his Granddaughter: Jennifer Reedy (Friend Steve) of Tower Hill; Grandson: Lance Bryant of Cowden; and Former Daughter-in-Law: Marsha Bryant of Cowden; six Great-Grandchildren; and eleven Great-Great-Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Barbara Bryant; Son: Dennis Bryant; and Sister: Helen Bryant.
