Visit the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home - Newton website to view the full obituary.

Richard “Butch” Dennis Butcher, 68, passed away on August 20, 2025 in Newton, Kansas surrounded by his family.

Butch was born on February 13, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Carol and Richard Butcher. He graduated from Garfield Heights High School before joining the Air Force in 1975; retiring after 26 years of service. In 2001 he began working at Hospira in McPherson, Kansas, where he served as Special Production Operator.

Butch married Kim Buckle on June 4, 1979 in Fort Worth, Texas, and they had two children together. They were blessed with many years of marriage as they just celebrated their 46th Anniversary.

Butch is survived by his wife, Kim Butcher; his children, Josh (Rachel) Buckle, Tessa Butcher, Matthew (Becky) Butcher; his sisters, Bonny Smith and Emmie Butcher; and many nieces, nephews and grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.

Butch’s military service gave him and his family the opportunity to see many parts of the world. He was very proud of his service and loved being a veteran. One of the things he loved more though was being a grandpa to Blake, Kieley, Annelise, Greyson and Emma.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the McPherson VFW from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend and share your memories. Donations or memorials may be made to Kansas VFW Endowment, a program that offers scholarships to students or to the Caring Hands Humane Society.
