Rich was raised in Los Altos, California, along with his brother, Steven, and his sister, Anne. He attended St. Simon School in Los Altos from the 1 st through the 8 th grade. While at both St. Simon and St. Francis schools, he studied diligently, received excellent grades, and was awarded many academic honors. Also, Rich was active in sports, including baseball, tennis and basketball, at St. Simon and St. Francis. He particularly enjoyed tennis and baseball, which he played during his grammar and high school years.
After graduating from St. Francis in 1987, Rich attended UC Davis in Davis, California. While at UC Davis, he majored in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Rich graduated from UC Davis in 1992 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After UC Davis, he worked as an engineer at Integrated Device Technology in Salinas, California, and then as a sales engineer at Insight. In 1997, He accepted a position as a sales engineer at Altera, Corp. in San Jose, California. Rich married Kathryn Rambo in 2001. Rich and Kathryn welcomed their son, Creighton, in 2009. They lived together in their homes in Los Gatos and in San Francisco.
In 2019, Rich was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Rich fought a five year long battle against this disease. He was incredibly brave throughout all of his treatments and always held hope that his cancer would permanently go into remission. His mother, Sandra, cared for him throughout these years.
Rich's family, including his mother, siblings, and wife took turns being at his side during his last months and weeks and provided loving care and comfort. He will be missed, and he will always remain in our prayers and thoughts forever. Our hearts are greatly saddened by his passing.
