Richard E. Clarke, Jr., 71, of Gaston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025.

Born on June 9, 1954, in Flushing, New York, Rich grew up in Syosset, NY. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Following his service, he relocated to South Carolina and attended Midlands Technical College, which led to a long and dedicated career as an Instrument Technician with the City of Columbia and Collins Control Inc.

In retirement, Rich found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and pursuing his favorite pastimes of hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. Clarke, Sr. and Virginia Clarke; his sister, Lorraine; and his nephew, Michael Clarke.

Rich is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Debra (Hughes) Clarke; his daughter, Heather Lassiter (Jeremy); and his beloved grandchildren, Erika Clarke Browning, Daniel Clarke, Kyle (Bridget), and Jacob Lassiter.

Rich will be remembered for his love of family, his quiet strength, and his deep appreciation of the outdoors.

A Celebration of Life will be held in November, on a date to be determined, to honor not only the life of a wonderful man but also what would have been his and Debra’s 50th wedding anniversary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to any Pet Rescue or Cancer Research organization.
