Richard Colter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home - Springfield on Feb. 27, 2026.
Richard Neil Colter, 89, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on April 8, 1936, in Ravenwood, Missouri, Richard lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.

Richard graduated from Ravenwood High School and pursued further education at a business college. His professional journey included a successful career in petroleum sales and as a realtor, where he found great joy in showing houses. His work reflected his personable nature and ability to connect with others.

A proud veteran of the Air National Guard, Richard served his country with honor. He was also a man of faith who attended Schweitzer Church and embraced Christian values throughout his life.

Richard had a deep love for sports and was an avid fan of late model dirt track races. He not only enjoyed watching sports but also actively participated in several during his life. Known for his kind heart, compassion, and sharp sense of humor, Richard delighted those around him with his quick wit and knack for cracking jokes.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Steven Colter (Adele), Mark Colter (Lisa), and Carole Austin (David Matthews). Richard was predeceased by his parents, Orval Colter and Norma (Short) Colter.

Richard's memory will be cherished by all who knew him. May the warmth of his laughter and the kindness he shared bring comfort to those mourning his loss. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Schweitzer Church 2747 E Sunshine St, Springfield, Missouri. Dress code is casual attire. No ties per Richard's request.
