Richard Allen Cooper, age 72, of Shelbyville, TN, passed from this life Monday, September 12, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Bedford County Agriculture Center's Community Center.
A native of Concord, NH, Richard was born April 8, 1950, to the late Wallace Elmer and Arlene Marian Moody Cooper. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by: beloved wife of 34 years, Edith LaBraney Cooper; siblings, Dinah Haycock, Jack Cooper, Jerry Cooper, and Ben Cooper; and an infant grandson.
Richard served honorably in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was very talented with his hands having worked in various fields from construction to auto mechanic.
Richard was beloved by his community and peers as being a person you could always go to for advice. He spent many hours on the phone conversing with relatives and friends, and would always remember to call and sing happy birthday to them each and every year. Alongside being a hopeless flirt and an avid storyteller, Richard could always bring a smile to anyone's face by telling jokes and making the best out any situation. He simply loved people, and loved being surrounded by them.
Survivors include: children, Tammy Avery, Bobbie (Curtis) Newsom, Billie Jo Jaurez, Catrina (Curtis Cripps) Cooper and Sandy (Jesse Northcutt) Cooper all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Julian, Crystal, Curtis, Alejandra, Bradly, Autumn, Nick, Xander, and Xoey, 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Diane (Mark) Johnson of NH, Robert Cooper of Estill Springs, Bruce (Dolores) Cooper of NH, Lon Cooper of NH, and Len (Mary Ann) Cooper of NH; along with many nieces and nephews.
