With profound sadness we announce the passing of Richard Burks Dabney, who unexpectedly died on December 10, 2025 at the age of 80. He was born the third of four sons to Hilton and MaryEllen Dabney November 3, 1945, in
San Francisco, California.
Richard lived a life marked by courage, loyalty, faith, and love. He devoted much of his life to serving others and his country. For nearly 50 years he was a distinguished member of the United States Air Force in Communications. Between his periods of military service, he was a valued Logan City police officer for 10 years. His dedication to public service earned him the respect of all those that knew him and an honorary membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
In addition to his service careers, Richard was a gifted athlete and was recognized as a United States Air Force All-Europe football quarterback. He remained a lifelong sports enthusiast, enjoying both playing, refereeing, and watching sports.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Richard lived his life guided by strong values and unwavering principles. On December 16, 1967, he married his eternal companion Sandra Smith. Together, they raised six children: Jennifer Dabney-Witte, Tiffany (Tim) Bailey, Melissa (Marcus) Dabney-Thomas, John (Des) Dabney, Kate (Joe) Bushman, and Andrea (Brian) Rose.
Richard was a loving father, and a proud grandfather to 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was known for his steadfast support, kindness, and loyalty to family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Roger and Ward Dabney, and his grandson Jacob Russell Thomas.
Richard's motto is reflected in the words "save money, live better". If you knew Dad, he loved shopping at Walmart.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the LDS church located at 665 W. 7615 S.
Willard, UT. A viewing will be from 12:00-12:45 pm prior to the funeral service at the same location. Interment will be at the Willard cemetery.
