Richard Clifton Daugherty, 61, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, surrounded by loved ones and with snow on the ground outside. He fought a long, hard battle against kidney cancer and never got to ring the victory bell at the oncologist. He is ringing all of heaven’s bells now.
Richard was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 3, 1964, to Frances Dixon Daugherty and Gayle Swanson Daugherty. Richard is preceded in death by his father, Gayle Daugherty and father-in-law, Ronnie Hough. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Daugherty; daughter, Natalie Grimaud (Geoffrey); daughter, Stacie Boatright (Charles); son, Clifton Daugherty (Mathulada); three grandchildren, Elizabeth Grimaud, Thomas Boatright, Emmarie Boatright. He is also survived by his mother, Frances Daugherty; sister, Cheryl Daugherty; sister-in-law, Cheryl Plyler; mother-in-law, Peggy Hough; five nieces; one nephew; and 12 grand nieces and nephews.
Richard loved going to the beach and fishing, watching football and cheering for the Tarheels every chance he got. He was always the life of the party; he made everyone who visited feel like they were at a second home and part of the family. He spent over 30 years “rolling in the dough” delivering bread and baked goods to all the grocery stores.
Richard rededicated his life to Jesus Christ in September 1996 at the Billy Graham Crusade at the then Erickson Stadium. He spent the next thirty years being a devoted follower of Jesus, serving his church, and raising his children to love the Lord. Nothing was more important to him than his love for the Lord and for his family.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00PM on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Cornerstone Community Church of the Nazarene (2707 Secrest Short Cut Rd, Monroe, NC 28110) with the family receiving friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church in his name.
