Richard PATTERSON Obituary

March 11, 1934 - May 4, 2025

The world became a little less bright on May 4, 2025, with the passing of Richard "Dick" E. Patterson, in Spokane, Washington at the age of 91 years. Dick was born March 11, 1934, and departed this earth peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Spokane, Washington in the presence of his family.

Dick was raised in Spokane, WA, but spent many summers of his childhood with his maternal grandparents in Sandpoint, Idaho. He graduated from North Central High School in 1951. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Washington University in 1976. He was employed 44 years by Kaiser Aluminum Mead.

Dad enjoyed throwing a ball and teaching his son how to "turn a wrench." He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and riding motorcycles with his family. He enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, and travel. Dick and his wife traveled Washington State purchasing quality baseball/ softball gloves at thrift shops to donate to children in need.

Richard Patterson was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served our country with honor including 2-years of active duty aboard the USS Chara (AKA-58) as an RD3 and served 4-years in the Naval Reserves.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and one of three sisters. He leaves behind his wife, Carol, of 22 years; his three children from his previous marriage, Karen Cooper (Jill), Kathy Ormsby (Joe), and Steve Patterson (Samantha); along with their families. Dick had eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous adult stepchildren, grand and great-grandchildren.
