Richard Dzwonkowski, 84, of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 12, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
Richard proudly served 4 years with The United States Air Force before entering into a lifelong career as a firefighter and fire marshal in his home town of New Britain. Upon retiring from the New Britain Fire Department, he went on to work with The Connecticut Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal's Office. He was a longtime member of The New Britain Elks Lodge #957, serving on various committees and was named Elk of the Year.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Theodora (Capsalors) Dzwonkowski, his two beautiful daughters, Susan Albert (Frank Vitale) of Monroe, CT and Karla Pistritto and her husband Paul of Waterbury, CT, his sister, Paige Dzwonkowski of New Britain, CT, an uncle, Edward "Butch" Dzwonkowski of New Britain; two cherished grandchildren Jack Thomas Pistritto of Waterbury, CT and Kaily (Albert) Narbutaitis of Southington, CT and one special goddaughter, Marie (DeSanto) Schweitzer of Berlin, CT. Richard leaves behind many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son-in-law Thomas Albert.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. Lawrence Giove and Staff, Stephen Sales, PA and the amazing nurses at Hartford Healthcare Home Hospice.
Funeral Rites for Richard will be held on Monday (August 18, 2025) 10:30 AM in St Joachim Parish at St. Ann Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday (August 17, 2025) from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Shaker-Hill Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave. New Britain. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 PM. The American flag will be presented to Richard's widow, Theodora.
