Richard Eckert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home - Bethlehem on Feb. 25, 2026.
Richard F. Eckert, 57, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026.

Born on July 20, 1968, in Allentown, PA, Richard was the beloved son of the late Richard T.F. Eckert and the late Nancy L. Walker (Cool). He was the loving husband of Patricia Eckert (Roth), and the stepson of the late Gary R. Walker.

Richard proudly served his country as a United States Marine, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic on AV-8B Harrier jets with the renowned VMA-214 Black Sheep Squadron. His dedication and skill during his service reflected the strong work ethic that defined his life.

Professionally, Richard was a skilled auto mechanic at the Bethlehem Mechanical Bureau, where he was known for his reliability and expertise in keeping vehicles running smoothly for the community.

Richard was devoted to his family. He cherished his son, William Eckert. Richard held his in-laws, Gloria Roth and Roy Roth, in the highest regard, loving them as his own parents and drawing great comfort and joy from their close bond. He was a proud brother to Wendy Eckert and Gary Walker Jr. (and his wife Rebecca). He adored his sister-in-law Brenda Lambert (and her husband Thomas) and brother-in-law Barry Roth. Richard was a cherished uncle to nieces and nephews Krista, Kristin, Alyssa, and Shaun, and to his many loving great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also survived by his aunt, Barbara Gaugler.

Richard found deep fulfillment in his memberships and passions outside of work and family. A committed member of the Heights AA and the Wanderers, he valued the camaraderie and support found there. He was also an active participant in the 540 Democratic Club, enjoying the community spirit and fellowship. An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved hunting and fishing, often spending time in nature.

Richard's will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the service he gave, and the love he shared.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 11 A.M. at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A calling hour will take place from 10 AM until the start of the service. Interment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to The Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Ave suite 1802, New York, NY 10001
