Richard Lee Egger II
Richard Lee Egger II passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 18, after a brief battle with cancer, in Portland, Oregon at the age of 58. He was born on June 7, 1966 in Lincoln, NE to Richard Egger Sr. and Rosemarie Egger (Sommer).
Richard grew up in a large family in Nebraska, always served up surprises and adventures with his siblings, had a good balance of jokester and serious, inherited a strong work ethic from his dad, commonly working multiple jobs to keep life busy, interesting and lucrative. His photographic memory served him well over his short life, especially his acutely keen GPS skills, superior to all electronic devices we rely upon today, commonly hearing Richard ask, "are you sure you want to be in that lane?"
Richard was best known for the love of his family, being an empathetic curious communicator, owning the gift of gab, engaging with anyone, anywhere, anytime, inviting spontaneous fun and laughter 24x7, as long as it was alongside Laurie, his true love.
From humble beginnings in Lincoln, Nebraska, he had opportunities to move around the US, living in Dallas, TX, Seattle, WA, Phoenix, AZ, and Portland/Hillsboro, OR, contributing to his adventuresome spirit and investigative sponge-like desire to hunt and gather information from wherever his radar led him, in relentless pursuit of odd-ball trivia to share in his gab sessions. Richard was a highly skilled musician, learning to play the drums from his father at a young age, where continued to fuel his passion by jamming with new musicians, and was always in search for that unique audiobook to narrate showcasing his velvety deep voice. Richard was an avid tennis fan, actively cheering matches year-round as Laurie minded the schedule, recently got caught up in the pickleball craze, and a wildly devoted Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, GO BIG RED!
After graduating from Lincoln East High School, a Bachelor of Arts focus in Journalism at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he then entered the army as an expert tank driver for four years, leveraging his technical and communication expertise, he followed his internal compass career journey as an entrepreneur starting his own specialized home electronics installation company, managed under-cover detective operations in Dallas, TX, installed the Epic software system at multiple Providence Hospital facilities across Oregon, leading him to his technical passion in software sales. In 2023, Richard landed his dream job working remotely for eBacon, Phoenix, AZ (Best technical work, manager, team, company, culture), where he found his greatest joy, appreciation, and satisfaction.
In May 2016, Richard met the love of his life, Laurie Horenstein Egger (aka Honey Bunny/Schmoopy) through an online dating app, realizing their deep love instantly, quickly followed by Laurie proposing to Richard on his birthday in June 2017, sealed the love with a backyard marriage Oct 28, 2017. They later moved out to the quiet of the country creating their Egger Farm autumnal paradise. Richard, fondly called Richie or Rich, will be profoundly missed, leaving behind heartfelt memories of his huge presence, positive energy, inviting mesmerizing radio-voice, his wildly contagious laugh, goofy spirit, laughter, jokes & wicked funny voices for endless hours of entertainment. Those who were in his circle of love are better humans from experiencing Richard's superpower gifts of deep love, compassion, and positivity with plans for a happy tomorrow.
Surviving Richard is his loving wife Laurie, children Maximilian and Xavier Egger, father Richard L. Egger Sr., siblings Maria (Randy) Taylor, Laura (David) Eisele, Lia Eickhoff, Jason Welter, sister-in-laws Jill (Chuck) Steltenpohl, Gail (Pete) Marracci, many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, eBacon work family, and Havanese doggies Leo and Kharma. Richard joins his mother, Rosemarie Egger (Sommer), stepmom Sandra Vosta, siblings Nancy Egger, Lynette Welter, and and his big, big buddy Scooter (aka Captain).
We are grateful to the 40+ nursing angels from 5th Floor Oncology at St. Vincent's Hospital, Portland, OR, and the Providence Cancer Institute Franz Clinic/Director of Oncology and Team for their unwavering, round-the-clock love, support, and extraordinary medical expertise provided to Richard and his family over the last two months of his life.
Celebration of Richard will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 2 pm at The Bickford of Lincoln, 4451 Old Cheney Road, Lincoln, NE, followed by a second Celebration with family and friends on Sunday, Oct 27, 2024 in Hillsboro, OR (More details to follow).
