Richard Freund Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holman's Funeral & Cremation Service on Jan. 6, 2026.
Richard passed away on December 23, 2025, in his home surrounded by family. Richard was born September 28, 1951, in Newark, New Jersey, to parents Thomas Francis Freund and Irene May Yagger. The family stayed in New Jersey for a few more years and then moved south to North Miami Beach, where he grew up with his two brothers, Tommy Freund (9 years older) and Donald Bruce Freund (9 years younger).
After graduating from high school, Richard attended Miami Dade College from 1969 to 1971 and then Florida Atlantic University from 1971 to 1973, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. Richard worked for a variety of employers, including Carrier air conditioning and Sears, before landing a job in Miami-Dade County's Human Resources department.
Richard's coworkers set him up on a blind date with a coworker, Linda Lee Woodall, and they immediately hit it off. Their second date was a trip to Spain, and not long after, they got married. They had two children, Kristen Lauren Freund (Snyder) and Zachary Todd Nicholas Freund.
Richard was well known amongst friends and coworkers as being a bright, hardworking man of integrity. He worked at Miami Dade County from 1974 to 1998 and retired as the Director of Administrative Services before the family moved to Boise, Idaho. Richard worked at Micron Technology in Boise before moving to Colorado and starting a fresh new career as a cook, then a chef, and finally an Executive Director at various senior living companies.
Richard was passionate about travel and enjoyed seeing the world with his family. The family owned a home in St. Simon's Island, Georgia, and Richard loved spending time at the beach with family and friends. Richard and Linda enjoyed going on Viking River cruises, sightseeing in Europe, traveling to New York City, visiting the beaches of Jamaica and Hawaii, and exploring other cultures around the world.
Richard's four grandchildren brought him much joy. Kristen married Josh Snyder (children Chloe Madison and Sophie Annabelle). Zachary married Kealin Dooley (children Ollie Eckhart Forest and Freya Ophelia).
After Richard's wife Linda passed away in 2024, he moved to Portland to a home designed for him next to his son's house. He enjoyed time with his family and was very pleased he got to see everyone one more time before he died.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to World Vision or your local food pantry.

Sad to see Richard leave us.

I worked with Richard in the mid 70s to early 80s in human resources. Richard was in the division that worked on collective bargaining with all the employee unions and was the key person in HR you would contact if you needed alternative ideas. I left Miami in the early 1980s, I knew Richard was going to aspire to higher level positions int he county. He was an impeccable dresser and had a knack to think differently in order to get a win-win situation.

Richard was a good friend as was his wife Linda who passed away only a few short years ago. I shall miss our friendship but remember our conversations and in particular our somewhat idle banter. It was all good.
Carmen and I met the family while attending Miami Lakes Methodist Church. We enjoyed time together with them on some trips to their favorite place, St. Simon´s Island.
My heart goes out to the family. Hoping each day forward gets a bit better for all.
