Richard Eugene "Gene" Eichelberger, 82, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the University of Maryland Hospital Baltimore, MD.
He was born on August 6, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Lester Donald and Arbutus Caroline (Jamison) Eichelberger.
Gene was a 1961 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
He was employed by Mack Trucks, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD for 43 years until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of UAW Local #171 and Mack Management Club.
After retirement, Gene was an ambassador for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD. He also managed the Cindy Dee Diner in Knoxville, MD for 5 years, and was also employed in food service for the Department of Corrections for the State of Maryland in Hagerstown, MD.
He was a member of Faith Christian Fellowship Williamsport, MD.
Gene was a member of the Community Vol. Fire Co. District #12 Fairplay, MD. He was also a charter member of the Sharpsburg Area EMS where he served as their first Chief.
He was the President of Kitty Angels, Inc. of Hagerstown, MD.
Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his cats and dogs. He also enjoyed spending time with his good friends at McDonald's on Sharpsburg Pike.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean (Otzelberger) Eichelberger whom he married on June 29, 1963; daughter Candy K. Denkovich and her husband Louis of Hagerstown, MD; son Darrin E. Eichelberger and his wife Nikki of Fairplay, MD; brother Joe Eichelberger and his wife Mary Ann of Sharpsburg, MD; brother Eldon Eichelberger of Sharpsburg, MD; sister-in-law Dixie Eichelberger of Middletown, MD; granddaughter Danielle; 2 great grandchildren Ella and Cason; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Donald Lee Eichelberger; sister LouAnn Eichelberger; brother Norman Leo Eichelberger; sister-in-law Shirley Eichelberger.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 1:00 pm on Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:00 am with the Shepherding Couple John and Melissa Miller officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
