Funeral services for Richard "Dick" Fairclough, age 82, will be held Monday, June 9, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson. Visitation with family and friends begins at 10:30am Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the funeral service starting at 12:00pm Monday. The luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the funeral service.
Interment will be 9:30am Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA. Rev. Linden Wendzel will officiate.
Richard "Dick" Keith Fairclough, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on June 6, 2025. Dick bravely fought for years against a terminal illness. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was born January 23, 1943 in St. Paul Minnesota to Thomas Henry Fairclough and Alice Marie Erickson. He was brother to Tom, Barb and Tim. He married Pam (Remer) on June 13, 1970. Their marriage was blessed with their son Cameron "Cam." In November 2007, he and Pam made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and renewed their marriage vows at Cana. They would have celebrated their 55 year anniversary one week after his death.
He attended Bloomington and Burnsville Minnesota high schools and attended reunions of both over the years. After his parents moved to Rochester, Minnesota, Dick started college in Waseca Minnesota. He signed up for the Marine Corps and proudly served as a crypto equipment operator in Vietnam. While he was serving in Hawaii, he was called upon to set up a special communication center after the capture of the USS Pueblo by North Korea. In 2021, he received an award for 51 years of membership in the VFW.
After he completed his four years of service he returned to Waseca to complete his education. For many years, he worked for Penney's Supermarkets where he began as a bag boy and worked up to become manager of his own store. He later started a business in Edina Minnesota. Through the years after moving to Faribault, Minnesota, he worked as retail support for several companies, renovated houses for several years and finally retired to Bull Shoals, Arkansas. He also lived in Mountain Home Arkansas, Maryville, Missouri, St. Joseph Missouri and finally settled in Jefferson, Iowa.
Dick was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church and served at each of his home churches in various capacities. He was outgoing and made friends easily. He was exceptionally handy and enjoyed doing projects; especially when it involved using power tools. His other hobbies included baking, cooking, gardening and playing cards.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pam, son Cam (Nicole), 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brother Tom (Cathy) Fairclough, sister-in-law Kari Fairclough, brother-in-law Jack Stocky, sister-in-law Becky (John) Baruth, sister-in-law Barb Remer (Patrick Moore) and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barb Stocky, brother Tim Fairclough, and granddaughter Stephanie Fairclough.
The family wants to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and CNAs of Hospice of the Midwest for their compassionate and tender care of Dick during his time in hospice and especially over the final week of his life. Their presence in our lives was a blessing.
