Richard Dirk Fern

1953 - 2024

Richard Dirk Fern, of Tawas City, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 14, 2024 under the loving care of his wife, family, and hospice, age 71 years.
Rick was born on June 29, 1953 in Flint, to the late Conrad Richard and Carol Stewart (Crist) Fern. He graduated from Fenton High School with the Class of 1971, and went on to further his education while studying at Mott Community College, earning his Associate's Degree in Arts.
During his working career, Rick worked primarily for himself in the black-smithing and gun repair business. Anything to do with guns, Rick was very well versed and knowledgeable, able to repair any type of gun.
In 2013, Rick was able to finally step-away from his business and begin to enjoy his well-deserved retirement years! In his free time, Rick truly enjoyed trap shooting, drawing, wood working, fishing, camping, and gardening.
He married his wife and best friend, Dorothy (Beaubien), on June 6, 1987. Together they shared 37 beautiful years of marriage!
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Fern of Tawas City; three children, Derek (Emily) Fern, Michael (Kellee) Saunders, and Richard Saunders; two siblings, Elaine Brancheau, and Randolph (Bonnie) Fern; and grandchildren, Alyssa, Megan, Rayana, Hayden, and Violet; and nephew, Shawn (Kassie); and great niece, Hailey. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Carol Fern, Vern and Fran Beaubien; and his Aunt Pearl Frank.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held during a memorial service to be held on Thursday, July 18, at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City.
