Richard Fetzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moss-Norris Funeral Home - St. Charles on Dec. 1, 2025.
Richard Eugene Fetzer Jr., 66, of North Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 27, 2025, surrounded by the family who loved him deeply. Born on December 4, 1958, with a gift for working with his hands and a heart dedicated to service. Richard built a life defined by skill, generosity and devotion to those he loved.
Richard proudly served as a firefighter/EMT for the Village of North Aurora, answering the call with courage, humility, and a steadfast sense of duty. His years in fire service reflected who he was at his core - steady, dependable, and committed to helping others in their most vulnerable moments. Outside of the firehouse, Richard built a lasting reputation as an automotive technician. With patience, precision, and a natural instinct for mechanics, he could repair nearly anything.
Richard had a lifelong passion for aviation. He loved building and flying model airplanes, attending air shows, and sharing that excitement with family and friends. One of his proudest accomplishments was restoring an antique fire truck, which he enjoyed driving to car shows, a perfect blend of his mechanical talent and his firefighter's spirit.
Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 and later living with dementia, Richard faced each challenge with resilience. Even as illness changed his body, the essence of who he was - kind, gentle, humorous, hardworking, and warm - remained unchanged. His quiet strength and steady outlook became a source of comfort to his family.
At home, Richard's heart belonged to his family-and his beloved dogs Tucker, Maverick, Bella Lou, Gracie, and Cooper, who were never far from his side.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years Cathy (Stanley) Fetzer; his children Steven (Amanda) Fetzer, Jennifer Fetzer (Brandon Durkin), and Michael Fetzer. Richard's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren Jack, Ryan, Joe, and the newest addition, Nicholas, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He is also survived by his brothers Kenneth, Phillip, Peter, and Thomas, his sister Barbara, and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Fetzer Sr. and Delores (Butler) Fetzer, his grandparents Edward and Katharyn Fetzer, Alvin and Francis Butler and his sisters-in-law Deborah Fetzer and Rebecca Fetzer. His beloved dogs, Tucker and Maverick.
Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, his use of the phrase "oh bullshit," his unwavering work ethic, and gentle kindness he showed to everyone he met.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Moss-Norris Funeral Home 100 South 3rd Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Richard throughout his journey. Your kindness, friendship, and prayers brought comfort and strength during difficult times. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in celebrating a life well-lived and a man who will forever remain in our hearts.
