Richard F. Fickes, 65, Bellwood, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on December 15, 1959, in Altoona, son of the late Charles and Peggy (Bowers) Fickes. Surviving is his wife, Teresa Smyder; two daughters, Aubree Zojonc (Ryan) of State College; and Angela Miller (Justin) of North Las Vegas; 8 grandchildren, Morgan Betz and Nate Brown both of Altoona; Rayna and JJ Jones of State College; Seth and Gabe McConnell of South Carolina; Ava and Wyatt Miller of North Las Vegas; two great-grandchildren, Rylan Brown and Beau McConnell; 4 siblings, Dave and Ray Fickes, Darlene McCloskey, and Pam Fickes; and his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Smyder. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Josh McConnell; and by 4 siblings: Ed, Barb, Boyd, and Rob. He was employed as a manager at CLW Delivery Inc. and at CCG/Comcast Fiberoptics. He was a member of the Heidelberg Country Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1859 Bellwood. Richard enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, fishing, anything outdoors, spoiling his kids and grandkids, and helping people. He also enjoyed fireworks, restoring things, wine making, and was always referred to as “Mr. Fix It.” Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., An Anderson Family Firm, 118 Rosehill Cemetery Dr., Altoona, PA 16602.
