Richard & I go way back to grade school when his family moved to Morrisonville. The entire family was a hit in our little town from day one. The Fuchs' @ 1st lived maybe 200 yds NW of my family home. All I had to do was trespass through a couple of my neighbor's backyards & I was right @ Richard's house. .. did it many times.
I'll never forget the time I visited & Richard had some small wooden pickets about 4' tall. With those pickets & some string he was constructing a top-notch whiffleball field. Wow! Big stuff. Pure genius in my book.
From there we moved up to almost daily games @ the Little League diamond with pickup games starting @ 1:00 all summer long. Richard was a regular. .. even brought along brother Bob's "major league" Louisville Slugger. We all knew it was our ticket to the "Big Show". Once we mastered that bat a couple of big-leaguers were one day gonna have to move out of our way.
Richard & I were basketball & baseball teammates from jr high through high school. A better team player never existed.
Richard & I hung out a lot growing up & continued our interactions @ MHS class reunions. It was always a pleasure catching up with Richard. He was a guy who cherished his wife & family & expressed it often.
I'll always remember Richard as a fun-loving guy who didn't need much to enjoy life. As long as he had good people around him he was happy. Dick had it figured out. He will be missed by all who knew him. .. a man with few if any enemies.
