Richard Goodwin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dupuis Funeral Home - Ashland on Mar. 18, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Alan Goodwin, 59, on March 16, 2026, after a courageous fight against a lengthy illness. Rich was born on March 9, 1967, in Laconia. He was the son of Sharon Lane and the late David Goodwin.

He is survived by his Mother Sharon Lane of Rumney, brothers and sisters Tracy Neal and her husband Doug Neal of Meredith, David Goodwin and his wife Brenda Goodwin, Brenda Hackett and her husband Ty Hackett of New Hampton, John Brackley and his wife Brandi Brackley of Chesapeake, VA, Jason Brackley and his wife Brandi Brackley of Chesapeake, VA, Dennie Goodwin and wife Jenn Goodwin of Tilton, and many nieces and nephews.

At the age of 12, he became close friends with the Sanderson Family: Richard, Gladys (who has since passed), Pam, Michael, and Greg (also deceased). They embraced Rich as one of their own, and he maintained a special bond with them throughout his life, especially with Richard, who is now 96.

Shortly after graduating high school, Rich moved to New York City to pursue a career in fashion modeling. His creative spirit soon led him to Boston, where he owned and operated a design studio specializing in creating elaborate high-end events and magnificent holiday decorations for prestigious hotels.

As he traveled across the country finding a place to fit in, he eventually found himself in the Southwest, where he turned his creativity to landscaping design. Although he loved the Southwest, New Hampshire always called him back home.

Rich's artistic flair extended to a passion for antiques. He frequently attended yard sales and auctions, discovering hidden treasures to sell in his shops in Plymouth and Ashland. A talented painter and designer, he had a knack for transforming what he called "junk" into beautiful artwork, working to the sound of his favorite tunes. He was an avid landscape photographer and his love for flower gardening made his little house vibrant throughout the summer.

After closing his shops, Rich ventured into the culinary arts at various locations. His favorite spot was George's Seafood, where he worked for several years, forming a close-knit family with the staff. Even though the restaurant has closed, their bond remains strong.

A fun-loving spirit, Rich enjoyed playing Bingo. After years of playing, he volunteered for several years at Fun Spot in Meredith, where his cheerful demeanor while selling tickets brought joy to fellow players. Rich was an avid Cribbage player who thrived on competition. He frequently invited friends over for games, and nothing brought him greater joy than "skunking" them.

Rich's compassionate nature was evident in his care for individuals in the later stages of their lives, with his most recent commitment occurring just a year ago.

He played a crucial role in establishing Ladders in Plymouth, a support initiative for the Bridge House, where he once stayed during a period of homelessness. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations in Rich's memory to the Bridge House, located at 260 Highland Avenue, Plymouth, NH 03264.

Calling hours will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home, 11 Hill Avenue, Ashland, NH on April 3, 2026 from 4 – 6 pm.

Rich will always be remembered for his creativity, his kindness toward others, and his zest for life. He will be deeply missed.
