Richard Gorgei Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clemente Funeral Homes - New Middletown on Feb. 25, 2026.
New Middletown – Richard T. Gorgei, 81, of New Middletown, quietly passed away February 21, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the love and presence of his family.

Rick was born in Youngstown to Joseph and Louise Gorgei. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Youngstown University where he was only one quarter away from a teaching degree. He was also a veteran. While attending college, he worked at Ryan Services where he met his wife of over fifty years, Mary Jo Devine. Throughout his employment history, Rick was hard working in his different full time positions even working evenings and weekends remodeling and painting houses so he could provide the extras for his family. In later years, he worked at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, where he and his family were members and dearly loved by all.

Rick was an avid hunter, recently traveling to Montana and Maine in pursuit of his favorite hobby. He did not let many things stand in his way proving so by skydiving this past summer with close friends. Until the end, he was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns, stating that in his lifetime, they would never see a Super Bowl victory.

Rick's identity was that of a dedicated family man, a hard worker, and someone who loved to help others. He leaves behind his son Kristopher, and his daughter-in-law Monica. He also leaves behind a brother, Donald Gorgei and his wife Linda of North Carolina and a sister Peggy Bernat and husband Andy of Youngstown. He will be sorely missed by many loving nieces and nephews, God children and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Jo who died December 27, 2023, and a grandson, Patrick, who died shortly after his birth.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church at 10143 Main Street in New Middletown, OH, 44442.
