Richard Graver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duggan's Mission Chapel on Feb. 5, 2026.
Richard Edward "Dick" Graver, born April 15, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Sonoma, California, where he made his home for the past 55 years.

Dick was a man defined by joy, curiosity, and connection. He loved laughing heartily, sharing good wine and good food, and engaging in deep conversations with new and old friends alike. In the small town of Sonoma, "Captain Dick" had many friends - and in every circle, he was admired, respected, and genuinely loved by all who met him.

Dick lived a storied and exemplary professional life, first, serving his country as an infantry soldier and interpreter in the US Army, spending his entire enlistment in Germany, then spending 33 years as a United Airlines pilot. He flew safely and skillfully throughout his career, retiring in 1999 at the controls of the Boeing 747-400. Following retirement, he embraced life fully, traveling the world for the next 25 years. He set foot on every continent except Antarctica - a testament to his enduring love of exploration and adventure.

He is survived by his three sons:
Brian Graver, (United Airlines Captain), father of Jade, Clay, and Lily;
Wes Graver, married to Dani, father of Coby and Dexter;
Craig Graver, married to Cathy, father of Chloe (United Airlines Pilot) and Emily.

Dick also held dear an extended family, the Inskeep family, who brought him great joy and companionship over many years.

A private family ash-spreading ceremony will be held in Hawaii, a place that reflects Dick's love for beauty, peace, and the wide open horizon.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered - for his laughter, his stories, his kindness, and the way he made every gathering feel like home.
