Richard Griffith, a life long resident of Stephens County in Oklahoma, passed away on February 6, 2025 at the age of 73. Richard was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on September 3, 1951 to Granville and Mary (Spurgeon) Griffith. He was married to the late Gayla Jo (Weaver) Griffith for more than fifty years, and together they had three daughters, six grandchildren, and a great grandson. Services will be held Friday, February 14, 2025 at 1pm at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel and his burial will follow at the Hope Cemetery.
A graduate of Bray Doyle, Richard worked hard at a number of things, from concessions to construction to law enforcement, before completing a 35 year career as a food salesman with Southwest Foods. He was always a hard worker, good provider, and caretaker for his family and home, and was well known and well respected in his community among his colleagues and customers.
Richard was also an enthusiastic fisherman, hunter, and builder. He was often outside building, grilling, listening to music, and hanging out with his grandkids. He was a funny man, especially with children, and always keen to pass on his many skills, not just to his blood relatives, but also to his sons-in-law, who each learned a great deal from him about being handy, living off the land, and being self-reliant. Richard was also a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church, and his faith was an integral part of who he was.
Richard was loved and respected as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by three daughters, Michelle Hoelscher and her husband Albert, Carrie Hughes and her husband Jon, and Holly Mohon and her husband Michael; six grandchildren, Lacey Hay, Hayden Farmer, Laurel Sickels, Jaxson Hughes, and Augustus and Cora Mohon; a great-grandson, Tyler Hutson; his Uncle Philip and Darlene Griffith, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Gayla, his son Joseph, his parents, his parents-in-law, his sister Peggy Corcoran, and his brother Granville (Griff) Griffith.
The Bible says in Matthew 7:16 that "Ye shall know them by their fruits," and Richard leaves behind a legacy of good and hardworking children, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild who make the lives of those around them and their communities better. He will be missed.
