Mockler Funeral Home - CaribouRichard W. Hallowell III, 81, passed away March 28, 2026 at the Aroostook House of Comfort with family by his side. He was born in Caribou, August 8, 1944 the son of the late Richard W. Hallowell Jr. and Barbara (Leighton) Hallowell. Richard was raised in Woodland, attended Woodland schools, and graduated from Caribou High School in 1961. He was as charter member of the Caribou Key Club, and was also a member of DeMolay. Following graduation, Richard served in the United States Army signal branch in Germany. He attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent earning a bachelor’s degree in education. Mr. Hallowell was a math teacher for many years in the Caribou school department and worked for DFAS for 10 years before retirement. Richard’s faith was very important to him and he was a lifelong active member of the First Baptist Church of Woodland. He served as a church deacon, was involved in choir as well as serving on numerous other church committees. Richard was also a longtime member of Caribou Country Club, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cribbage when possible.
He is survived by his children, Bethany Thibeault and husband Rick of Caribou, and Richard W. Hallowell IV of Madawaska Lake, five grandchildren, Ian Thibeault of Caribou, Connor Thibeault and wife Kristen of Woodland, Kyra (Thibeault) Bagley and husband Adam of Parkman, Richard W. Hallowell V of Bangor, and Olivia Hallowell of New Sweden, one sister, Sarah Tukey of Belfast, two brothers, Dana Hallowell and wife Cheryl of Madawaska Lake, and John Hallowell and wife Julie of Portsmouth, NH. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Troy McNeal and wife Dawn of Springhill, FL, Tracey McNeal Cyr and husband Rob, and Teelynne McNeal Herbert and husband Jack all of Caribou, multiple nieces and nephews.
Rick was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Candice (Johnson) Hallowell in 2017, his second wife, Beverly McNeal Hallowell in 2023 and one sister, Judith Hallowell.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Woodland, from 12PM until time of services which will be held at 1PM with Rev. Ronald Rosser officiating. Interment with military honors will be at a later date in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
