John Lee Somers, 75, departed this life to be with Jesus on March 25, 2026 at Caribou. He was born in Caribou, July 24, 1950, the son of Lee W. and Ellouise (Bean) Somers. He grew up on Grimes Road in Caribou and graduated from Caribou High School in 1968. He went on to the University of Maine, earning an associate's degree in mechanical engineering. Though having many challenging times with respiratory illnesses, he was called into the National Guard and got pneumonia while there. Upon his return, he helped his parents on the family farm. When his dad left farming, Lee and John bought Presque Isle Memorial Works. Lee and Ellouise moved to Presque Isle, and following Lee's retirement from the monument business John continued to live on the family farm, renting out farmland but always maintained a large garden. John was the sexton of the Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou for 35 years, most of which he took no pay for. He also served as treasurer of the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle for several years. John still dug monument foundations for other businesses. In 2017 after his dad passed away, he sold the family farm to live with his mother. John was very quick witted and loved to make people laugh, as well as tease his nieces and nephews. He was very thrifty, spending very little on himself but was always generous to the church he belonged to, several organizations plus several online ministries. John enjoyed listening to Les Feldick Bible Studies and Allen Jackson Ministries. John loved gardening and cooking for himself, but he also enjoyed Mum's meals as well. John enjoyed fixing things and figuring out how they worked.
He is survived by his mother, Ellouise of Presque Isle, two sisters, Nevella Alexander and husband Timothy of TX, and her children, Steven Dangler and Rodney (Tammy) Dangler and their children, Tayler, Chad, Samantha, Scarlet and Brady all of Texas, Kathy (Timothy) Folster of Enfield, and daughter, Amber (Erik) Bergeron and their son, Jakob Bergeron, all of York, two aunts, Natalie Undercofler of Hudson, NH, and Marilyn Mirus of FL, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father Lee Somers.
