Stephen Carroll Kemp, born October 29, 1954, in York, Maine, passed away at Hopewell House in Portland, Oregon, on March 28, 2026. He was raised in Cape Neddick, Maine, and spent his summers enjoying the beauty of Ogunquit Beach, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Stephen graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher at Wells High School, where he shared his passion for learning with his students. In the middle of his career, he transitioned into the technology industry, working as a computer sales professional and sales manager at ComputerLand. In 1986, Stephen moved to Michigan and later married his wife, Sheila. In 1999, they relocated to Oregon, where he spent the remainder of his career as a technical writer and manager of a technical writing team.

Stephen enjoyed a life rich with curiosity and exploration. He loved reading, playing video games, exploring the Pacific Northwest, and traveling the world. One of his favorite travel memories was celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora-an experience he cherished deeply.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Kemp, 58, and his sister, Stephanie Byrne, 66.

Stephen spent his final days surrounded by love and the beauty of nature at Hopewell House, an end-of-life care facility that provided comfort and peace during his last chapter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Hopewell House, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 84-3380179).
