Richard Hammerschmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gresham Memorial Chapel from Feb. 15 to Feb. 16, 2023.
Richard "Dick" (Rick) Hammerschmidt of Portland Or was born Feb 16th, 1950 in Yakima Wa. He grew on an apple orchard with his 5 siblings Rudy, Joan, Judy and Joyce where he's was the second youngest. He graduated from the University of Washington before starting a 42 year career in the airline industry. As a customer service representative he spent the majority of these years (32) with Alaska Airlines at PDX.

He retired in 2015. Throughout his life he was and avid reader and lover of music, especially 60's and 70's Rock. Rick enjoyed following the Mariners, Niners, Kraken, and Winterhawks. His first love however was the U of W Huskies, his alma mater.
Rick loved to travel and did so with his loving wife Kathy, of 31 years. In fact, throughout their marriage they visited countless cities all over the country and all over the world and one highlight of their many adventures was getting to fly on the Concord not once but twice.

Rick thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his son Jason and grandchildren Luke, Grace, & Sophie, as well as visiting his Daughter Rochelle in Arizona. Rick could best be described as a kind, friendly and gentle soul. He was always willing to help out whenever he could. He will be dearly missed by all the family and friends whose lives he touched.

Was so sorry to hear about Richard. I knew him in Yakima. My high school best friend Roberta and I connected with him some where in the last 4 years after our Davis high class reunion. His high school best friend , and Roberta´s old boyfriend Jack , had died and we were wondering if he knew. He had told me in some messages about his life and traveling with his wife Kathy. Was so nice to hear from him. I am very happy i reached our after all these years. So so sorry to his family. He was a good man I am sure and did not have enough time with that great family he had . Prayer to them .
